Based in the United Kingdom, Emma is an internationally recognised interdisciplinary artist and scholar from the US working across film and digital photography, mixed media, and collage. Her practice explores themes of collective solitude, negligence, consequence, and catharsis from her perspective as a person living with incurable neuro-immunological disease. Her encompassing theme is contemplative stillness, executed through technical precision. The work invites us to share her anemoia as a third-party observer: sehnsucht.‍ ‍

Emma’s style carefully considers vibrance and visual balance, grounded in both technical skill and scholarly inquiry. Her work has been exhibited and documented in the press across Europe, China, the US, and the UK.

Notably, in 2025, Emma received the Bronze Prize in the UK International Art Competition’s Real Illusions exhibition at Gallery NAT London and was selected for The Sussex 2025: “L’art de la vie quotidienne,” as well as national exhibitions across the US and UK. She is currently a candidate for the UK’s Global Talent visa as an internationally exhibiting fine artist.

Who Am I / Who I Am

My practice explores the relationship between the human body and its environment as something inseparable; a codependent, symbiotic result of one another realized through the trial of self-awareness. I am interested in anchoring, acknowledgement of struggle, and the ability to care. I see the environment as a home for the body and the body as a home for consciousness; through this exchange, our bodily interactions with the environment shape our reality.

Visually, I explore the point at which the body and landscape become indistinguishable, both at a micro and macro level. The body fulfills the kinetic space of nature as the landscape fulfills the static space, yet together they complement each other’s stillness and motion. Through photography, collage, and textiles, I investigate how layering, scale, saturation, and visual balance can communicate emotional and psychological tension. My use of saturated color remains a consistent stylistic identifier within my work, often accompanied by some type of strangeness that disrupts familiarity.

As a multidisciplinary artist born in the United States and currently based in London, my work engages with themes of anxiety, conformity, negligence, impatience, consequence, resolution, and resilience. The themes within my practice take a natural course of evolution and remain under the umbrella of disadvantaged life circumstance and the search for strength to persevere. Rather than arriving at conclusions, I see the work as an ongoing process of examination in which more questions emerge, illuminating tertiary ideas across history, philosophy, psychology, and art.

I am most inspired and driven by the people keep me; their complex lives, unique traits, individualisms, and methods of survival. I continue digging into our minds and souls to shepherd thematic ideas into conception. At the core of my practice is the experience of having worked through extreme medical and health crises, through which I found a profound spiritual depth that continues to inform my work. This understanding is constantly amplified through my connection to other people and to nature, both of which remain central to my creative process and sense of meaning.
